This Privacy Policy explains how FairOSS, PBC. ("FairOSS", "our", "us", and "we") collects, uses, and discloses information about you through the website located at www.faiross.org ("Site") and related services (collectively, "Community Services") or when you otherwise interact with us.

We may change this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make changes, we will notify you by changing the date at the top of the policy and, in some cases, we may provide you with additional notice (such as adding a statement to our homepage). We encourage you to review our Privacy Policy before you use or submit any information on or through our Site or Community Services, to stay informed about our information practices and the choices available to you.

Collection of Information:

Automatically Collected Information.

This website is hosted by Squarespace. Squarespace does collect personal data when you visit, including:

  • Information about your browser, network and device

  • Web pages you visited prior to coming to this website

  • Your IP address

This data is used to run their website, and to protect and improve its platform and services. All data is analyzed in a de-personalized form.

Information You Provide to Us through our Site.

We collect information you provide directly to us, for example, if you create a customer account on this website, we collect personal information to improve our checkout experience and service. Information will include:

  • Billing and shipping address(es)

  • Details about your orders (for example, your shirt size)

  • Email address

  • Name

  • Phone number

We share this information with Squarespace, our website hosting provider, so they can provide website services to us.

Information You Provide to Us through our Community Services.

The FairOSS community is powered by Discourse, a freely available open source forum software. When you visit our FairOSS community, the forum software uses cookies, server logs, and other methods to collect data about what pages you visit and when. We use data about how you use the website to:

  • optimize the forum, so that it’s quick and easy to use

  • diagnose and debug technical errors

  • defend the forum from abuse and technical attacks

  • compile statistics on forum and topic popularity

  • identify potential community leaders in certain categories or topics

To join the FairOSS community an account is required to view, post, and reply to topics. To sign up for a forum account, FairOSS requires your name, a user name, and an e-mail address. Other information at signup is optional at the user’s discretion.

FairOSS uses your e-mail address to:

  • notify you about posts and other activity on the forum

  • reset your password and help keep your account secure

  • contact you in special circumstances related to your account

  • contact you about legal requests, like DMCA takedown requests

Additionally, our forum software is hosted on Digital Ocean, a third party cloud service provider. Please review the Digital Ocean Privacy Policy for how system level information is collected.

How We Share Your Information:

FairOSS uses your community account data to identify you on the forum, and to create pages specific to you, like your profile page. Since the forum is access-restricted, FairOSS makes your account data available to everyone who can access the forum, according to the forum administrator’s configuration.

You may provide additional data for your account, like a short biography, your location, links to social sites, on the profile settings page for your account. FairOSS makes that data available to others who can access the forum. You don’t have to provide this additional information, and you can erase it at any time.

FairOSS stores your account data as long as your account remains open.

FairOSS collects the content of your posts, plus data about bookmarks, likes, and links you follow in order to share that data with others, through the forum. Since the forum is access-restricted, or access restrictions apply to the specific post, FairOSS makes your activity available only to users permitted to see it.

FairOSS also collects data about private messages that you send through the forum. FairOSS makes private messages available to senders and their recipients, and also to forum administrators.

FairOSS stores your posts and other activity as long as your account remains open.

If you are a resident of the European Economic Area (“EEA”), you have certain rights and protections under the law regarding the processing of your personal data. Legal Basis for Processing If you are a resident of the EEA, when we process your personal data we will only do so in the following situations:

● We need to use some of your personal data to perform our responsibilities under our contract with you (e.g., processing payments for and providing the FairOSS services you have requested).

● We have a legitimate interest in processing your personal data. For example, we may process your personal data to send you marketing communications, to communicate with you about changes to Community Services, and to provide, secure, and improve your overall experience with us.

If you are a resident of the EEA, you have the right to access personal data we hold about you and to ask that your personal data be corrected, erased, or transferred. Account Information

You have the right to review, change and delete information about you at any time. You can do so by editing your account on the Site, your profile in our community, or emailing us at info@faiross.org.

Emails

We may email you with messages about your order or account activity. For example, we may email you to tell you that:

  • You’ve created a Customer Account

  • Your Customer Account password has been reset or updated

  • You’ve made a purchase

  • Your order has shipped

It’s not possible to unsubscribe from these messages.

We share your contact information with Squarespace, our website hosting provider, so they can send these emails to you on our behalf.

We will send community digest emails to let you know what discussions are happening in the community. You may opt-out of such communications by following the opt-out instructions contained in the emails.
